Mission Mania

Mission Mania

This mini mission camp is designed to offer a soft entry into the realm of mission work typically offered to youth in middle and high school groups in the summer.  Over the course of 3 days the youth will work for at least 5 different ministry partners. On the last day of our work we will celebrate our efforts by going to Sparetime Entertainment for fellowship and fun.  We are partnered with the following agencies:

  • UMAR- The United Methodist Agency for the Remarkable
  • B.R.E.A.D., Inc.  Community Food Bank
  • BCO-  Belmont Community Organization
  • Morningside of Gastonia
  • Samaritans Feet

SAMPLE SCHEDULE- Start and stop times should be consistent all 3 days. Schedule during the day will vary.

  • 8-8:30am Arrive at Church
  • 9-11:00 Serve others
  • 11:30-12:30- Bag lunch in a local park
  • 1-3:00- Serve others
  • 4:00-4:30 Dismissal to home

SLEEP OVER OPTION- June 6th

We are offering a sleep over in Carpenter Hall on Tuesday evening the 6th, for those students who feel comfortable staying. Youth will need to bring an air mattress for our sleep over. This will not be an opportunity to stay awake all night. Sleep is important to the safety of our bodies and our ability to work pleasantly when we serve the next morning.  However, we will have lots of time to play games after we eat dinner and will close out the evening with a movie on the big screen.

COST

$90 covers, one lunch, one dinner, one breakfast, a game of mini Golf at Monster Mini Golf, bowling, 2 games of laser tag, a $5.00 arcade card at Spare Time Entertainment and supplies for our mission projects. A nonrefundable deposit of $40.00 is required to register your child.  The balance of $50.00 will be due May 8th.  Parents and students who work the Pine Needle Sale for at least 2 hours on March 17th or 18th will not have to pay the $50.00 balance.  Funds from the Pine Needle Sale will pay the balance for those who volunteer and put in their labor.  If you would like to volunteer please click HERE.

REGISTRATION

Final details of the Mission Mania will be shared after the balances are paid on May 8th.  You will receive a packing list for each day and for the sleep over on June 6th.  I assure you that several of our ministry partners will require waivers to be signed by parents.  You will receive all those documents the first week in May.  We are limiting our registration to youth currently engaged in ministry at FUMCB.  We must make sure we have enough adults to supervise, provide transportation and not be a burden with too many young volunteers at our partnering agencies.  If we find ourselves in the month of April with open spots we will open up registration to a wider audience (friends and visitors).  If you are ready to register please click HERE.
