It was during a school break in 2001 when Preston Taylor was at a stop light with his wife Martha and noticed a large number of children playing outside their homes. Preston wondered, what could these children possibly be eating for lunch. Out of his concern for the children Preston and Martha launched the Feed the Children program at our church. For over 20 years we have been delivering meals to the children in our community during Christmas and spring break. After evaluating the current needs of families in 2022, we expanded our program to include the delivery of “eat and serve” meals instead of daily meals in a styrofoam container. Teams prepare several meals for delivery during the break, and other volunteers pack bags of pre-packaged nonperishable foods. Included in the pre-packed grocery bags will be snacks, breakfast, and lunch/dinner options for the child. The bags include heat and serve food items which the children are accustomed to preparing at home.
Over thirty volunteers will deliver the meals and bags of food to any home that asks for food assistance. Groups and individuals can sign up now to help pack groceries for families. Volunteers are also needed to help cook the hot meals or help deliver on selected dates over the Christmas break. If you would like to help with this ministry click HERE.
