Faithful, generous giving is an important way in which we experience and know the presence of God. Jesus talked about money more than anything else, in part because he knew that money has great power to distract us. We can easily become preoccupied with money and miss out on all that God is doing around us. Like the farmer in one of Jesus’ parables, we can obsess over our money and possessions in the hope of securing a better future and miss the opportunity to share in God’s kingdom work here and now.
Faithful, generous giving is who we are at First United Methodist Church. For generations, across our 104 year history, we have been a people who give and share with others. As we give today, we are building on the strong legacy of faithfulness we have received from generations past and ensuring an even stronger future for God’s work among us as we seek to be more like Jesus in Belmont and beyond.
As Paul wrote to Timothy, “Do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share, thus storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life that really is life.”
